The emblem is used on all personal letterhead, stationery, cards, and gifts by the Queen’s Consort
Since the death of Britain’s longest-reigning Queen Elizabeth II, much has changed, including a rise in rank for some members of the royal family.
Prince Charles became the new monarch and was now addressed as King Charles III, while his wife Camilla – Duchess of Cornwall – was called Queen Consort. In such a situation, now she has a new icon just like her husband.
The 75-year-old publically unveiled a “special cipher” designed in his honor, People reports. Reportedly, Buckingham Palace – which is the monarch’s official London residence – confirmed on Monday that the emblem is Camilla’s “private property”, chosen from several designs.
Like her husband, Camilla’s cipher consisted of a monogram placed under an ornate crown. The written ‘CR’ represents Camilla’s initial ‘C’ and the ‘R’ stands for ‘Regina’, which means ‘Queen’ in Latin.
Similarly, the initials of Charles Cypher’s first name begin with ‘C’ and are ‘R’ for ‘Rex’ – ‘King’ in Latin. The Roman numeral is three or even a third.
The publication said the Queen’s Consort would use the emblem on all personal letterhead, stationery, cards, and gifts. It was designed by Professor Evan Clayton, calligrapher on the Faculty of the Royal Drawing School and Academic Board, in collaboration with Timothy Nod, Harold Painter, and Scrivener at The College of Arms.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the emblem of the new sovereign replaces Queen Elizabeth II, who has been on the throne for more than 70 years. Her symbol is ‘ER II’ – for ‘Elizabeth Regina’.
